Since the 2004 Supreme Convention, the United in Charity Fund was announced by Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson as an unrestricted endowment to support the long-term charitable goals of the Order. Shortly after it was established, an urgent need to raise money for Gulf States hurricane relief meant creating an endowment fund for that immediate disaster. The Knights of Columbus Charities raised $5.5 million in donations to aid those afflicted by the tragedy, with the Supreme Council paying all administrative costs of the program. This allowed 100% of every donation to go directly to aid areas affected by the hurricane. We have now built the Knights of Columbus Charities into a sizeable endowment that has continued to grow every year since its founding.
The United in Charity fund is focused on building an endowment which will provide a steady source of funding for the Order’s charitable projects while avoiding subjection to short-term fluctuations in our ability to raise money for worthy programs. The Order constantly receives special requests from the Catholic Church and many worthy organizations that are closely aligned with its mission. Currently, the demand far exceeds the supply of funds available. By building this endowment, the Order will be able to respond to more requests and ensure that the goals we champion now and in the future will receive deserving financial support.
The Knights of Columbus United in Charity fund enables the Order to continue the tradition of more than 125 years of service to those in need. It inspires confidence that the Knights are a legendary force for good! We are changing lives not only all over our country, but in many parts of the world.
